Lightning

Death has this dual quality of being certain and also uncertain. On one hand we all know that it is surely an universal truth that all living things have to die. On the other hand we have very little idea of when and how we all will meet our deaths . Definitely something to ponder over . 

Don't think that I am having macabre thoughts or getting negative. I think everyone contemplates on such matters time at some  point of time. To me these thoughts came as I read the news of over 100 people  killed in UP and Bihar by lightning strike. Such deaths are not uncommon , all over the world. But perhaps the instance of so many deaths on the same day is a bit uncommon. 

I mean , come to think of it. All these people who were struck by lightning perhaps had no inkling about their fate even moments before they died. Uncertainty always exist with life, or death. But this was the height of it. And this mode of death has existed since the beginning of this world, whenever it was. There is no answer or explanations to questions that rise in our minds when we hear such news. Nor is there any rationale.

ভিতর থেকে আসা ওই চিৎকার

কেউ শুনতে পাচ্ছে না

কোন ভগবান বা দেবতা ও নয়

পাপ পুন্য আত্মার রাংতায় মোড়া

যা কিছু শেখানো হয়েছে তোমায় 

ছোটবেলা থেকে

সব ই অলীক কল্পনা

তুমি আছো তাই ওরা আছে

না থাকলে কিছুই নেই

তাই তোমার অন্তরের আর্তনাদ 

তোমাকেই বয়ে বেড়াতে হবে

জাগ্রত থাকবে যতক্ষন 

এই বেঁচে থাকার মায়া তে

সহ্য করে যেতে হবে সব কষ্টের বোঝা

এই নশ্বর শরীর কে নিয়ে 

অমর হতে চাওয়ার চেষ্টায়

এক জঘন্য ষড়যন্ত্রের শিকার হয়ে

তোমার অস্তিত্ব জুড়ে কেবল যন্ত্রনা

বার বার তোমায় বুঝিয়ে দেবে

বাঁচা লাশ হয়ে থাকার চেয়ে ভালো

লাশ হয়ে বেঁচে যাওয়ার আনন্দ

On May 29 , the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has submitted in the Supreme Court that it is ultimately the doctors' and healthcare workers' own responsibility to protect themselves from COVID-19. They need to protect themselves from exposure to infections by training themselves and taking all precautions to prevent infection.

The statement was made while replying to a plea questioning the Centre's new guidelines for frontline COVID-19 healthcare workers by which it has ended the 14-day mandatory quarantine for them. The full statement made is as below :

"While the Hospital Infection Control Committee in the health facility is responsible for implementing the Infection Prevention and Control activities, but the final responsibility lies with healthcare workers. It is their responsibility to train themselves and take all measures in preventing the infection."

The head of the same government exhorted the whole country a few days back to assemble at their balconies at the appointed time and clap or bang utensils in support of the doctors. And an overwhelming number of morons did so . Not only that, they even bad-mouthed those who saw through the idiocy and refused to do so. 

To those people who clapped, banged utensils, fired crackers, observed blackouts , lit candles and diyas , I have some simple questions - Aren't you feeling ashamed ? Have you mortgaged your senses ? Did you sell your soul ? Can't you stand up for once and protest ? Don't you see where we are heading ?

I know you will all stay silent , until they come for you. 

রাতের আকাশ

এই অন্ধকারে আমি ছাদে একা দাঁড়িয়ে
আকাশের ফিকে চাঁদের আলোতে
দূর দিগন্তের তারাগুলির পানে তাকিয়ে
বুঝতে চেষ্টা করি পৃথিবীটি আসলে কত বড়
এবং আমরা কতটা দূরে
তারাগুলি দেখতে এতটা কাছাকাছি
মনে হয় তাদের কাছে যেতেই পারি
তাদের স্পর্শ করতে পারি
কিন্তু জানি আসলে কখনই পারবো না
এভাবেই কখনও কখনও অনেক কিছুই
যতটা কাছে মনে হয় তার চেয়ে অনেক দূরে
তাই আমাদের কিছু কিছু ব্যাপার নিয়ে ভাবা
ছেড়ে দেওয়া উচিত ,  ছেড়ে দিতে হয়
নাহলে তা শুধুই অর্থহীন উদ্বেগ
কত কিছুর ব্যাপারেই তো পুরোটা না জেনে
বা অনেক ক্ষেত্রে কিছুই না জেনে
এত বেশী চিন্তা করি
কি কি খারাপ হতে পারে তাই নিয়ে
নিজেদের মনেই ভয় বাসা বাঁধে
রাতের আকাশ বলে যায়
দূরের জিনিস দূরেই থাক
যা কাছে আছে আজ আছে
তাই নিয়ে বেঁচে থাক তাই নিয়ে সুখী হও
